Report cards.... interviews

It is hard to believe that another term has come and gone so quickly....

As I finish up the kinder's report cards,  it is so rewarding to report and reminisce on  the growth every kinder has shown since fall.

I look forward to sitting down with all the parents and discussing their child's progress this last term...  and also talking about their strengths, challenges and "next steps" as an active learner in our classroom.

Report cards will be going home on Monday March 4th, and Tuesday March 5th.

Wednesday March 6th will be the first day of interviews.  This  is also a regular school day for the odd class (green).   The interviews will take place in the seminar room in the office,  while a substitute teacher is in the classroom with the green class for the day.

Thursday March 7th is the second day of interviews.  There is no classes for any students on this day.

Friday March 8th - is a regular blue class day.

Interviews will be scheduled the same as last terms, with those having Wednesday and Thursday appointments staying the same, along with the times.

I will send home a confirmation of interview times and dates this week.

I hope everyone had a great weekend and enjoyed the great weather!

Amazing app

The kids have enjoyed playing a new app on my iPad this week. The app. Letter school was forwarded by our schools resource teacher and it is amazing for helping students learn to identify Upper and lowercase letters their corresponding sounds and also numbers.
It allows the kids to practise the proper writing formation for the letters and numbers as well.

I believe the download is 1.99
Here are some pics of us trying it out. We use the handwriting without tears setting as this the the program we use in class.

Rebuilding the igloo

We have been rebuilding during free choice time. Thank you to everyone for donating milk jugs, It will make a great reading nook when finished!

Grade 8 Reading buddies

Last week we had a visit from our reading buddies.  Together they helped us make a book about their school experience drawing a picture of them,  a picture of Mr. Sheppard and a picture of Mrs. K.  These are so cute -  and as soon as they are finished they will be sent home for you all to enjoy!

Mr. Sheppard made an appearance so the kinder's to get an up close look at him -   I will let you be the judge if their drawings are life like versions of the real thing !

I like.....

This past week there was lots of excitement in the classroom. From Tammy's third visit, to talking about what we like, the lady bug foundation bake sale, the lady bug walk , and ground hog day!

Chilly weather!
We spent quite a few recesses indoor , doing just dance on the whiteboard and watching a letter land movie about detective dippy duck!

Home reading
We also started picking our own books for home reading, the kids switch their books themselves first thing every morning! And are always eager to share with each other how much they enjoyed their books and if they saw some words we have been learning in class.
Please make sure you read the yellow handout sent home called "the most important kindergarten homework"

MS Read-a-thon
There was a presentation Friday about the ms readathon. Students find sponsors and keep track of how many minutes they read at home for the month of February. There is no obligation for kindergarten to do this and I will only be sending pledge forms home with those whose parents show interest either by emailing me, or writing in their kinder students bear books.

Groundhog Day
Groundhog Day was feb. 2nd. The green class on Friday talked about the predictions made, read a story and learned a song to sing with their puppets they made. The blue class will be doing these activities on Tuesday.

Valentine's Day
Lists were sent home in each kinder's bear books for valentines cards. Our party's will take place on Thursday the 14th and Friday the 15th in the afternoon.
It is not mandatory that each child gives out valentines cards, but our classroom rule is you either give them to everyone, or don't hand any out - so there is no hurt feelings.
I will be emailing people who signed up to bring treats this weeks

Reminder. - no classes for students on Monday. First day of classes for the week is tuesday which will be a BLUE CLASS day.
