Our week is busy - so here is the rundown:

Monday - Green Class Day  -  remember to please bring any flashlights for classmates to use for our concert.  So far I have 4 flashlights.

Wednesday  - Green class day
                        Concert dress rehearsal @ 2pm
                        Christmas Concert at 7pm.
Please have the kinder's to the classroom by 6:45pm.  We need to get all 43 kids arranged and dressed to head on to the stage first for 7pm.  Non perishable food donations accepted at the door for the local cheer board.
After their performance the kids come to the classroom to change and can be picked up from there about 10 mins after we are finished on the stage.  I will be going back in to watch the remainder of the concert.

Thursday  :  Blue class Christmas party Day,   Pyjama Party -  wear your pj's to school,  bring your favorite stuffy.    We will be reading and doing some Polar Express themed activities as well as watching the movie in the afternoon.  "Treat time"  will be at 2:15 after last recess.

Friday

The blue class today had another busy day.   Thank you to those families who supported the school's teddy bear toss!    It was pretty neat to see the toys go flying over our heads,  as we were right at the bottom of the pit.

Today we worked hard decorating our Christmas boxes for the concert.

We made our Gingerbread ornaments with our grade 8 buddies,  and they read us the books they made for us.

Our Light em up for the day was to help someone carry something.

Blue Class....Green Class

Blue Class - Teddy Bear Toss
On Friday at 10:00 am our student council is putting on a Teddy Bear Toss in the pit.   Students can bring a new  or gently used teddy bear or stuffy and toss them in the pit to try and cover the student council members!  All toys donated will go to the local Christmas Cheer board.

Light' em up -  the blue class today was asked to  " make eye contact with someone and smile".    We talked about how eye contact is important and how a simple smile can make someones day and warm our hearts.  We tried it out at circle time and there were lots of "Mrs. K,  my heart feels so warm when I smile at someone and they smile back"  and   " Can we do it again?".  Today we proved that kindness can be spread through the simplest of  actions -  which just happens to be one of my favorites :)     With a smile - no words are needed and the gesture is universal !

Blue and green class - Library Books

This week was our last library class before the break.  Mrs. Widdowson has kindly asked me to pass on the message to have all books returned back by the students last day of classes, December 21st.

Gingerbread Baby!

Today the green class read Gingerbread Baby by Jan Brett!  We loved the illustrations and the cute story -  and will be doing more activities with the story throughout the week.

Our grade 8 buddies came down and together we made gingerbread baby ornaments, and helped our grade 8 buddies with their gingerbread books.

We had a bit of center time where we:
1) practised writing and saying the sight words: is, have, we, I
2) Christmas dice coloring -  building number sense and number recognition
3) Creating patterned Christmas ornaments
4) Gingerbread number puzzles,  counting and ordering numbers
5) Matching Uppercase and lowercase letters
6) Dr. Seuss Number Memory.  Matching the word to the number symbol
7)  Christmas tree math -  creating Christmas tree by ordering  the paper longest to shortest

We have also been practising counting up to 50 playing the "popcorn"game.  See how high your kinder can count to!

Our light em up act of kindess today was to " ask someone if they need help with anything".  We had lots of great helpers - asking their friends if they  needed any help getting ready for recess!
Bailee also pointed out that we "lit up" Mrs. Emerson Proven's face when she smiled after we showed her our Christmas lights performance!

Keep practising the Christmas concert poem!

On Thursday we will be decorating our props!

I took a bunch of pictures today -finally...  but left my camera at the school :(

I will add the pictures for tomorrow!

Reminder - Thursday is library day!

December - Week 1

You better watch out, you better not cry
you better not shout I'm telling you why...
Santa Claus is coming to town!
Dear Santa

Both classes this week will get to write a letter to Santa - with the help of their grade 8 buddies!! We talked about using our best printing and coloring to impress Santa, and assure him that we are on the NICE list. Mrs. Konsorada will be express posting the letters to the North Pole on Friday!

Light  'em up -   an act of kindness for every day of December
We have  a special jar in our room where every morning we pick an act of kindness for the day.    The analogy I gave the kinder's was that -  when you do something nice for someone -  the look on their face, and the smile they give you is you lighting up  their day!
So - all of December we are going to be lighting up people's faces ! Not only do we make them feel good -  we feel lit up as well!

Monday -  the green class drew a card that said " make a flower for a class helper" -  Mrs. Lemoing, and our lunch buddies were the first people the kinders thought of - and they were so happy to see their faces "light" up when they presented their flowers!!

Tuesday -  The blue class drew a card that said "Help someone cleanup their area" -  the kinders not only helped me, but their classmates as well as helped bring in lost mittens and crazy carpets from outside!
Keep asking your kinder what their light' em up deed for the day was!

Christmas Concert
This week we have started to talk about our Christmas Concert performances  - and we have started to learn the first couple verses.
The green class will be doing a poem called "Christmas Lights"  and the blue class will be doing one called "Christmas boxes".    After,  both classes will join to sing " Up On the Housetop".
I will send the words home in the kids BEAR books this week so they can practise at home as well!  The big day is coming...

We will be starting to paint and design our props next week.  If you would like to help out please contact Mrs. K.   (paint, glitter and glue...   not for the faint of heart!! )  and next week -  send kids in older clothes, or send an extra "paint shirt".  I do have smocks - but even with those on there is always messes!

Morning Message
This week we have been moving right along with our morning message -  the kids are getting very good at reading the sight words and we have been jumping to every word in the message to help us remember that there are spaces in between each word.   Again the sight words we are focusing on are : is, have, we and I.

The letter   D d.
With December starting,  we have looked at the letter D the last couple of days.  Students  have been doing a great job at brainstorming words that start with the "D" sound!  We will also be looking at the letter C  (Christmas) and L (lights) this week.  On Thursday and Friday we will be making our names in a string of lights!

Uppercase and Lowercase letters
In center time we have been playing lots of matching games for the letters of the Alphabet. The hardest one's are always p, q, and b and d  along with  g and y and i and j.   When I introduce letters I always introduce both upper and lowercase.     This week we have started to look more closely at our writing and I have started to give kids the option of writing their names either way -  but always with a Capital at the start - because our names are IMPORTANT!   Students that are still having trouble with their uppercase are encouraged to still write the bigger letters, as they are easier strokes and help  develop their fine motor skills required for lowercase.

CHANGE Campaign  - "Penny Drive"
Thank you to everyone who donated their pennies!  Our classes combined donated four bags of  pennies to the campaign - and the school total was 24!!  That is 24 peoples lives we have changed for the better by providing them with clean water for life!   That is definitely something for us to "Kiss our brains" about!!
