A is for Apple

The kinder classes had a great week looking at the letter A and doing some apple activities!!
The blue class has one more day of "Annie the Apple" on Monday - and then both classes will be looking at the letter T - for thanksgiving and turkey!

The classes both love singing the Annie the Apple song - from a program called Letterland.

Annie the apple sways in the breeze
Acts like an acrobat high in the trees
With a smiling face, and a waving hand
She's the happiest apple in Letterland!

We had morning center time where we split into groups and each group spent time:

1. Painting with the apples
2. Making our first book  - about "apples"
3.  Searching for characters at the alphabet matt
4. Being letter A detectives and going on an "A hunt"
5.Rolling "apple stand A's" and "Annie apple a's" in playdoh
6. Using the wood shapes and discovering how to make A's with big and little sticks.

Apple Week!

We introduced our apple week on Tuesday with the Blue class!  For the next few days we will be doing apple related activities and learning centers as well as looking more closely at the letter A!
We read the book " Ten Apples Up On Top!".  Mrs. K tried to walk with 2 apples up on top - but was only able to successfully walk with 1!       At center time the kids tried it out - but with blocks instead of apples!!  No one got to 10 - but we did have some at 5!!

Morning Center Time & Afternoon Free Choice

The classes are enjoying their free choice and center time.  In the morning we have a 45 minute block of center time, and in the afternoon students enjoy half an hour of free choice time where they  choose their activity.  These are a few pictures of some center and free choice favorites.

The Lost Tooth Club

The green class had its first member join the lost tooth club this past week!  Congratulations Austin on losing your first tooth!!

First Week of School - The Kissing Hand

We started off the year by reading a book called "The Kissing Hand" and learning about Chester's first day of school and what kind of feelings he was having.  The classes discussed how we felt on our first day of school, and made our own Chester's to display in the classroom.

To surprise our families for open house,  we also made them their own Kissing Hand memento from our first day of school!

No David !

Together we read the book No David! and also read David Goes to School by David Shannon.  The classes really enjoyed these books and discussed things we should and shouldn't do at school.

The Kinders made their own classroom books showing themselves doing things they should and shouldn't be doing at school.  Now everynow and then in the classroom you here the students reminding each other "don't be a David!"
